Against that backdrop, a flurry of economic data is scheduled for release over the coming week, especially in the Germany and the US, with the former possibly further informing the European Central Bank's decisions at its next policy meeting.
In the case of the Eurozone's largest economy, those will include the IFO institute's business confidence survey for August on Monday, followed by a reading on consumer confidence on Wednesday.
Also due out are preliminary readings on consumer prices in Germany and Spain, both on Thursday.
Stateside meanwhile, the spotlight will be on durable goods orders figures covering the month of July, on Monday, together with readings on personal goods and spending and consumer confidence at the end of the week.
Back on home turf, the BBA's mortgage data and BRC shop price index for July are due out on Tuesday, followed by GfK's consumer confidence survey on Thursday and Nationwide's house price index on Friday.
